Objetivo: Six prizes are currently awarded by the Academy. The Lucien Cahen Prize, intended to reward the author of a high-quality study on a topic dealing with overseas geological sciences, the Jean-Jacques and Berthe Symoens Prize, awarded to a study dealing with tropical limnology, the Fernand Suykens Prize, rewarding a work devoted to port economy, management or technology in developing countries, the Yola Verhasselt Prize, awarded to a field work dealing with tropical geography and consisting of a travel credit for financing a stay overseas. The Professor Romain Yakemtchouk Prize is intended to reward the author of a doctoral thesis related to international relations or peace issues with a special emphasis on overseas countries. Recently set up, the Marthe Engelborghs-Bertels Prize for Sinology will be awarded every 5 years to the author of a high-quality scientific work on a topic related to China in the broader sense of the word.

Objetivo: The Mineralogical Society of America’s Grant for Research in Crystallography is funded by the Edward H. Kraus Crystallographic Research Fund with contributions from MSA members and friends. The grant awards up to $5,000 for research in the field of mineralogical crystallography. This grant targets projects within the areas of mineralogy, crystal chemistry, petrology, mineral physics, biomineralization, and geochemistry that can employ a variety of crystallographic, spectroscopic, analytical, and computational techniques.

Objetivo: The MHS will offer more than 20 short-term research fellowships in 2020. Each grant will provide a stipend of $2,000 for four weeks of research at the Society sometime between 1 July 2020, and 30 June 2021. Short-term awards are open to independent scholars, advanced graduate students, and holders of the Ph.D. or the equivalent, with candidates who live 50 or more miles from Boston receiving preference.
