The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) International Program fosters international cooperative research and the exchange of scientific information by drug abuse researchers around the globe. NIDA’s international objectives include: promoting international research activities; supporting research training and exchange opportunities globally; communicating and disseminating science-based information on drug abuse and supporting international research collaboration.The Distinguished International Scientist Collaboration Award (DISCA) supports direct collaboration between American senior scientists and their colleagues from outside the United States. The NIDA sponsors the program to advance scientific understanding of drug abuse and addiction through cooperation on new research methods and techniques; data analysis; collaborative research reports or proposals; or basic, clinical, and applied research.

Objetivo:
The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide support for highly innovative and promising intervention research designed to improve smoking cessation outcomes among socioeconomically disadvantaged populations. Specifically, this FOA is intended to stimulate research efforts aimed at the development of smoking cessation interventions that: 1) are targeted to socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, and 2) could be made scalable for broad population impact. Applicants may propose projects that develop and test novel cessation interventions with the potential to be scaled up, as well as projects that focus on enhancing the effectiveness, quality, accessibility, utilization, and cost-effectiveness of currently scaled smoking cessation interventions.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) seeks to stimulate research that tests optimal end-of-life and palliative care (EOLPC) interventions/models of care that are based on individual- and family-centered outcomes. The testing of EOLPC interventions and models of care are urgently needed that address racial, ethnic and/or cultural diversity in children and adults for those with serious, advanced illness. Trials are needed to test efficacy and effectiveness of these interventions and/or models of care. Application budgets are not limited but need to reflect the actual needs of the proposed project. The maximum period is five years.
